Palmento Costanzo is a notable winery on the northern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, recognized for its unique volcanic terroir. Established by Mimmo Costanzo and Valeria Agosta, the winery focuses on restoring ancient winemaking traditions. The estate benefits from rich volcanic soil, ancient terracing, and varying vineyard elevations, contributing to the complexity of the wines. The winery cultivates indigenous grape varieties like Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio for reds, and Carricante and Catarratto for whites. They produce Etna Rosso, Etna Bianco, and Rosato, known for their elegance and expression of the terroir.

A wine of medium straw yellow color and a fragrant bouquet of citrus fruits and mineral notes, with hints of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is vibrant, fresh, and savory.

Producer

Palmento Costanzo sits in Contrada Santo Spirito on the northern slope of Etna, around a conservatively restored 19th-century palmento (traditional lava-stone wine press) with a new bio-architectural cellar built beside it. Its eighteen hectares are terraced across several contrade, each on a different lava flow, and every parcel is vinified separately in steel, tonneaux or large casks so each soil speaks with its own voice.

Tasting note

A wine of medium straw yellow color and a fragrant bouquet of citrus fruits and mineral notes, with hints of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is vibrant, fresh, and savory.
