Montalcino
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG · Rosso di Montalcino DOC
Brunello comes from one hill and one comune. Our five estates sit on different sides of it. Turn on Slope aspect to see which way each slope faces, then tap a pin for the estate, its vineyards and its wines.
- Our producer (cellar / estate)
- Vineyard (OpenStreetMap)
- Contour, every 25 m (bold every 100 m)
- Comune di Montalcino (Brunello DOCG area)
Sources & notes
- Relief, contours, slope aspect and the cellar elevations: elevation model from AWS Terrain Tiles (Terrarium, zoom 13, about 14 m per pixel; SRTM-based in this area). Contours are smoothed, so expect ±10–20 m.
- Places, roads, rivers, lakes, vineyards (landuse=vineyard) and municipal boundaries: © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), via the Overpass API, October 2026.
- Producer pins: the cellar or estate address published on each producer's website, placed with the map pin the producer links to or, where none is linked, the Google Maps listing (or OpenStreetMap feature) for that address. Vineyard parcels are not pinned unless the producer publishes their location; their altitude and aspect are quoted from the producer's own pages (linked in each panel).
- Brunello di Montalcino DOCG area = the territory of the comune of Montalcino (production rules: Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino).
- "Slope aspect" and "Cellar site" figures are calculated from the elevation model, not from the producer.
- Since 2017 the comune of Montalcino also includes the former comune of San Giovanni d'Asso. The OpenStreetMap boundary shown is today's comune; the former San Giovanni d'Asso area (north-east) is not part of the Brunello DOCG. No official DOCG boundary file was found as open data, so the DOCG line itself is not drawn.
