What to say

  • Organic certification With hand harvested grapes and low yields this is a very good pinot grigio with notes of citrus and white flowers and loads of mineral character on the palate
  • Edi Simčič is a family estate in Goriška Brda that bottled its first wine in 1989 after decades of Marica and Edi Simčič growing grapes for the local cooperative.
  • Their son Aleks took over in the 1990s, set the house style and built the modern cellar; the third generation, Jure and Jakob, now works alongside him.

The producer

Eddie Simcic

Edi Simčič is a family estate in Goriška Brda that bottled its first wine in 1989 after decades of Marica and Edi Simčič growing grapes for the local cooperative. Their son Aleks took over in the 1990s, set the house style and built the modern cellar; the third generation, Jure and Jakob, now works alongside him. Thirteen hectares on marl and sandstone around Kozana and Fojana yield about 65,000 bottles a year, mostly barrel-fermented whites in the Klasik, Lex, Kolos and Single Vineyard lines.

Winemaker
Aleks (Alex) Simčič took the reins in the 1990s; sons Jure and Jakob now involved (per producer site)
