Winemaker
Marjan Simcic

Marjan Simčič is a cult producer in Slovenia. Half his vineyards are in Italy and half in Slovenia. Much lauded by the international press including Decanter, Wine Spectator and Suckling this producer is at the top of wine producers in Slovenia (and we also think Italy). The soil for his vineyards is rich in minerals, which contributes to the production of these unique wines. Simčič makes his wines based on traditional methods and natural viticultural and winemaking techniques including native yeast and no chemical additives.

Tasting Notes Golden yellow with copper tinges. The colour highlights the intensity and complexity of the aroma (nice flo-ral aromas developing in fruity and spicy notes), full body (the soft, mature and fruity initial taste is substituted by the note of apricots and melons), alcoholic richness with balanced acids, and variety characteristics (at the end, slightly bitter)

Producer

The Simcic family has grown vines in Medana, Goriska Brda, since 1860; their vineyards were already rated first class in the 1786 Habsburg classification. Marjan Simcic, fifth generation, took the reins in 1988 and built a modern cellar in 1997, and the sixth generation, Leonardo, is now involved. The wines are made from organically farmed (SI-EKO-001) vineyards in three tiers: Brda Classic, Cru Selection and the single-vineyard Opoka Cru.
